Mark, a dedicated fitness enthusiast, had spent years working from home and training in his garage. By late summer 2024, he decided it was time for a change — to create a space that truly reflected his lifestyle, combining work and wellness under one roof.
After discussing Mark’s vision in detail, we concluded that a full-width garden room spanning the rear of his garden would offer the perfect balance. The design needed to accommodate both his multi-gym setup and a standing/sitting desk positioned with a view over the garden — a workspace that would inspire productivity and calm in equal measure.
The main challenge lay in the height of the multi-gym. To achieve the clearance required, the structure would exceed the standard permitted development height. Our in-house planning department swiftly handled the planning application process, ensuring everything was approved without delay.
The finished result is stunning. Mark chose a sleek forward canopy with inset LED lighting to both slatted cheek reveals — a design detail that brings a modern, architectural feel to the space. The aesthetic presence of the room from the garden is nothing short of striking.
We also coordinated the landscaping to the front of the building, introducing a tranquil zen-style garden with integrated seating — a perfect complement to the calm, focused atmosphere of the new space.
Mark has since told us that his work-life balance has transformed. His productivity and workout routine have both reached new heights, and his home is now reserved purely for relaxation and family life — exactly as it should be.
